The Holiday Season of Love

The holiday season is here.

I hope your Thanksgiving was filled with wonderment and gratitude. It is such a good time to share what you are most grateful for. A loving family, understanding spouse, thoughtful children, an awesome career, fantastic friends, health, food and drink on the table, great books, entertainment, laughing, crying, giggling, rejoicing, singing, dancing, jogging, walking, tasting, smelling, touching, hearing, seeing, are just a few things of gratitude.

One of the things for which I am grateful is Beau’s right eye is getting better. Beau is my 7 year old 6 pound Shih Tzu who lost his left eye 5 years ago. We have handled the infection but the ulcerated eye is still healing. We hope it continues healing and he will not need surgery. Most of all, we pray for healing that he doesn’t lose his sight or eye. The doctor and his staff are doing a good job and Beau is receptive to getting 8 different drops 4-6 times a day plus pills. What are you grateful for?

Fill Your Stockings and Fill Your Heart

This season is full of brightly colored lights, songs ringing through places of worship, smiles and laughter of neighborhood children, presents being bought and wrapped, and thoughts of love and kindness all around. Christmas and Hanukah are filled with decorating, shopping, baking, cooking, partying, children’s plays, and thoughts of Santa, stockings and toys. Let’s all remember to fill our thoughts, hearts and actions with love.

What to do if you are Having Difficulty

If you struggle into the holiday season with anticipation of irritation and family dysfunction, try a little peace and joy. Be good to yourself. Relax. Stop some of the stress. Think about the good memories. Recount your blessings. Focus on the positive. Do small acts of kindness for others. Figure a plan that will take care of your needs and still be kind to others. Limit the toxic stuff or omit it all together. Fill your thoughts and time with taking care of you and helping others. Or as my best friend says, “Get over it!”

What to do if you are doing the Season with Happiness

If you are happily going into the holiday season with anticipation of family love, try a little peace and joy, too. Do all of the things above as well. (Be good to yourself. AND, get over the past.)

Good Self-Care and Acts of Kindness

If we all approach the holiday season with good self-care and actions to help others, we can get into a loving mood and the meaning of Christmas. This is the brightest season of Light and Love. Create it for yourself and your family. Fill the glasses with holiday kindness and keep your focus on the substance of love.

My wishes for you are a most gracious, joyful and loving holiday season.
